Since you have already learnt riding a motorcycle, it’s time you should know some really helpful tips and tricks to enjoy your every ride.
When I was learning to ride a motorcycle from my friends, I was not very satisfied with them because they missed transferring the secrets that are very vital for every motorcycle rider.
I have researched a lot on this subject, and I have also tried to add my experience and knowledge here.
Here a few tips and trick that I can share with you:
- RELAX AND RELAX
Riding a motorcycle is all about releasing your negative energy. You just can’t be tensed and worried while riding a motorcycle.
If you are not okay or something is worrying you, just don’t ride. It’s not safe. Take all the steps to make yourself tension free before or while riding.
- CHECK THE FUEL TANK
They say empty highways and filled tank are the sources of joy for the motorcyclists.
Keeping your tank full or at least above the half is always recommended. It’s got some important psychological reason behind it.
Moreover, keeping your motorcycle in or near reserve mode doesn’t save fuel or any money.
So, try to keep your tank full, or at least half of it whenever possible. Or, be ready for a bumpy and jerky ride.
- MAINTAIN THE SPEED
It is bad if the speed thrills you. Always keep the urge of more speed in check.
Let the professionals do this job, or find yourself a racetrack near you to do this.
By the way, riding like an 80-year-old uncle is also not cool. All you got to do is maintain your speed.
If you think your current speed is making you fear or uncomfortable, just slow down.
Meanwhile don’t go too slow that the guy behind you might need to honk at you repeatedly.
About 45 km/hr is the ideal speed in cities’ roads, and one should not cross 100 km/hr speed on the highways.
- REV MATCHING
This thing requires a little practice, but it is an easy process.
Rev matching is required to bring the smoothness in the machine and its components.
Rev matching reduces jerks and bumps, and also improves the mileage. Most importantly, it keeps the engine in a healthy condition for a longer period.
- APPLY BRAKES WISELY ON OILY, WET OR SANDY TRACKS
Oily, wet and sandy tracks are bad for motorcyclists. Don’t apply brakes on such surfaces unless it is needed.
If you need to apply the brakes in such conditions, apply both brakes slowly and mildly.
Hard and sudden brakes will make your motorcycle imbalanced and you may fall.
Though, falling is not bad as long as you are ready to learn from that.
- USE INDICATORS AND OTHER LIGHTS
Using indicators or blinkers wisely requires lots of practice and attention.
One should make it a habit to use blinkers when needed. Leaving blinkers unnoticed can double your chances of trouble on roads.
Using your hand as a signal is not bad as long as you can do it without losing your balance.
Nowadays, most motorcycles come with AHO (Always Headlight On) facility, which is a great thing.
As per various researches keeping the headlights on while riding has brought down the numbers of accidents on the roads.
In case, your motorcycle doesn’t have this facility, you should follow suit and turn your headlight on while riding.
- DON’T CHANGE YOUR LANE ABRUPTLY & FOLLOW THE TRAFFIC RULES
I always see people doing this in Asian countries, especially in my country India.
This uncivilized habit not just endangers your life, but also the lives of others. If you have done this unknowingly, repent it.
Remember, there are always vehicles behind you. Always follow the traffic rules and take pride in it. Do it and show it off, it looks good.
- WEAR HELMET… ALWAYS
Wearing helmet should not just be a part of traffic rules, it should be a habit.
You should wear it even if you are riding a stone throw distance. Helmet saves lives; it does, when it does.
- KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE FROM TRUCKS AND OTHER HEAVY VEHICLES
You should become alert and careful whenever you see a truck and other SUVs around you.
These are the enemy number one for the motorcyclists. In fact, they are not to be blamed completely, for they generally have poor visibility due to their construction.
So, it becomes our duty to keep a safe distance from them. Also, we should be the most careful while overtaking them.
- TIMELY SERVICE & ON TIME MAINTENANCE
Well, we all love availing free servicing period, but we should not ignore this after the grace period.
If you face any small trouble with your motorcycle get it checked with the professional mechanics near you.
