The process of job search is, indeed, frustrating. Sometimes, it becomes even more frustrating because of the wrong approach and the poor style of job hunting.
Fake consultancy firms and fraudsters add to this frustration. But, thankfully job market is thriving everywhere, unless it’s a recession period.
Freshers make the job hunting process more difficult, mostly because of the lack of guidance and their stubborn approach in career.
I’m a well experienced recruiter, and I have observed some serious loopholes in the job search process by the freshers.
NEVER MISS ANY JOB OPPORTUNITY
I generally see freshers letting many job opportunities go, just because that didn’t suit their academic background.
This is what I generally see with engineering and MBA graduates. They come out of college with fixed goals in the career path.
An engineering graduate may ignore technical support job, or software sales job, or even a small company’s job offer just because of his/her fixed approach.
The similar thing happens with the MBA graduates. An MBA guy having specialization in Human Resources may ignore job opportunities in Sales or Marketing line.
This approach is not cool, indeed. I don’t say everyone suffers because of this fixed approach towards the career, but it is just not recommended in this highly competitive world.
Letting go opportunities with smaller salaries is another issues with the freshers; obviously, we cannot blame them.
The freshers need to understand that one cannot become a well established engineering or MBA professional overnight.
It happens slowly, and in the due time. It may delay by one or two years if not many.
Remember your dream job or designation or position can wait even after a year or two after your graduation. Your first and immediate goal should be getting yourself a job.
Once you get the job, you would be less stressed which good for your job search strategies. Now you can search for your preferred job as you wouldn’t be in a hurry.
WORK ON YOUR COMMUNICATION
Most freshers lose job opportunities because they fail to communicate in their interviews. Attending interviews without any preparation also decreases the chances of success in interviews.
Improvement of communication skills is a lifetime time process. We should keep working on it.
Sometimes, it becomes frustrating. I know this personally. But we just cannot quit.
FAILURE IN BEGINNING ADDS TO SUCCESS
I come to know some guys who have failed miserably at the beginning of their career, and failed to stand up.
If you have been fired or asked to leave at the initial states of your career, don’t worry much because it’s normal.
We fail in beginning because of our young minds or immaturity. Give yourself some more time.
STAY AWAY FROM THE FRAUDSTERS
I usually come to know about the fraudsters who dupe job seekers. This surprises me because now we should know that we are not supposed to give any money to employers or job agencies for employment.
Falling prey to such fraudsters adds to our frustration. Also remember you cannot buy a job by paying any amount; so stay away from such ideas.
NEVER RESIGN UNLESS YOU HAVE ANOTHER JOB OFFER
Sometimes we resign out of frustration and spend some time on holidays. Later, when we start job search it gets delayed more and more.
It happens; I don’t know much about how and why. This phenomenon brings lots of frustration.
I don’t say one cannot get a job easily after resigning from the current job, but I just don’t recommend this.
DO JOB HUNTING ONLINE, DON’T ROAM WITH CVs
Job search style has changed in last 15 years. Job portals such as naukri.com and monsterindia.com have changed the game completely.
Hiring managers and recruiters of any company highly rely upon these job portals. They don’t entertain candidates who just drop in with their resumes or CVs.
Since the time has changed, the number of job hunters has increased drastically. We recruiters usually get lots of CVs for an opening, and we try to find out the best out of them.
So, don’t frustrate yourself and lose any energy by visiting the door to door with your CVs.
ATTEND EVERY INTERVIEW CALL
I know attending many interviews can be boring and tormenting, but who knows when the luck can strike. This period could be harsh, but it’s worth it.
